Music pirates not ruining the industry
Despite what the music and film industry are telling us about the harm that pirated music and other copyrighted material is having on the industry, a Canadian government report on the music industry and pirates, seems to say that the opposite is actually true.
Instead of the pirates having a detrimental effect on the music industry this report seems to be saying that while pirates are copying music, there is also a related rise in the sales of CD’s which goes to show that even though some music is being copied, but some is being bought too.
The conclusion of this document is that if the industry is looked at as a whole then the pirates who copy music are not having the effect that everyone seems to be saying that they do, there is neither a positive or negative effect on the industry.
